Uzbek Raisins: Varieties, Global Production and Export Opportunities
Raisins are much more than a traditional dried fruit. Thanks to their versatility, they are widely used in bakery, confectionery, cereals, snacks and many other food applications. Naturally rich in carbohydrates, dietary fibre and essential minerals, raisins are both a convenient snack and a useful ingredient for the food industry.
Their diversity is one of the reasons they are so widely used. Depending on the grape variety and drying method, raisins develop different tastes, colours and textures, from Sultana and Thompson to darker varieties such as Black raisins, as well as Flame and Golden raisins.
Global production of raisins is estimated at around 1.27 million tonnes for the 2025/26 season. Major producers include Türkiye, the United States, India, Iran and China.
Uzbekistan also plays an active role in this market. During the 2025/26 season, the country exported around 90.000 tonnes of raisins to 57 countries, including approximately 49.000 tonnes of brown raisins (sultanas), 38.000 tonnes of black raisins, and 3.000 tonnes of golden raisins.
Uzbekistan is especially known for its black raisins, which are valued in international markets for their distinctive characteristics and quality. We will share more about these products and their production in our upcoming posts.
