The new mung bean season in Uzbekistan is underway
The 2026 harvest is in full swing, and production this season is expected to exceed 250,000 tonnes.
Uzbekistan is among the world’s largest producers and exporters of mung beans, alongside Myanmar, India and Australia. Between 2019 and 2025, national production rose by 127%, and exports reached 150,000 tonnes in 2025.
Uzbekistan has already moved to the next stage by starting supplies of sprouting-quality and organic mung beans. Thanks to sector reforms, the country is now one of the three main suppliers of sprouting beans to the EU, together with China and Myanmar. In the 2025, the EU imported more than 1,200 tonnes of Uzbek mung beans, and over 50% of that was sprouting grade. China’s share is larger, but much of what it supplies is primary-processed product, which is later re-exported to Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia.
Global Export is leading this shift.
